The shocking slaying of Takeoff in Houston has prompted the rap community to remember far too many young talents who tragically died due to gun violence.
Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie Smalls, was only 24 years old when his car was gunned down in 1997, just six months after Tupac was killed. The murders of both men remain unsolved.

Young Dolph was assassinated in 2021 outside a Memphis bakery. He was on his way to distribute a truckload of turkeys in his old neighborhood when he was killed violently and unexpectedly.
PnB Rock was on the Billboard charts in 2016, but his career and life were tragically cut short when he was shot and killed during a robbery at Roscoe’s in Los Angeles in September.
Of course, there have been many other deaths, including Pop Smoke, Nipsey Hussle, and XXXTENTACION, as well as those who escaped, including Lil’ TJay, 50 Cent, and Slim 400.
Nipsey was assassinated outside his Marathon clothing store in his neighborhood, with at least ten bullets striking his body and his murderer also kicking him in the head.
XXX was only 20 years old when he was fatally shot while leaving a motorcycle dealer in Florida. A black SUV stopped XXX from going to the parking lot, and two gunmen jumped out and approached his car.
After a struggle, the shooters entered XXX’s car for a small bag before opening fire.

While police have made some arrests, most notably in the deaths of PnB, Nipsey, and Dolph, the industry continues to mourn the loss of lives and talent.
