Two construction workers are currently receiving treatment at the Koforidua Government Hospital after a section of the redevelopment of the Koforidua Jackson Park project collapsed on them.
The incident happened after a short rainfall, accompanied by the wind in the vicinity.
According to eyewitness reports, the entire roofing of the stand came down, burying the workers under the rubble.
Some residents who witnessed the incident accused the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly of supervising substandard work.
They argued that the project which was supposed to be completed in 12 months was awarded to corrupt contractors who have squandered government monies and done shoddy work.
“It is unfortunate that the government invested money into this new project, and it has just collapsed. I doubt the competence of the contractor. I am shocked and blame the Assembly.”
“The Assembly must take lessons from this incident and ensure that something similar does not happen in the future”, another resident said.
The project is yet to be completed a year after it was awarded.
