I Wanted 13 Seasons Of Game Of Thrones But Showrunners Wanted To Rush- Author George RR Martin Reveals

The author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the source books for Game of Thrones, George R.R Martin has revealed he wanted as many as 13 seasons of the show.

According to the author, he lobbied for at least ten and as many as thirteen seasons of the show but was overruled by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss.

Martin made the revelation in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“I was saying it needs to be 10 seasons at least and maybe 12, 13. I lost that one,” he told the Journal.

Game of Thrones went off the rails towards the end as showrunners packed too much story into too few episodes.

The final season was a unanimous bomb as fans complained it was too rushed.

According to Martin, there would have been more seasons if he had his way.

Martin was speaking ahead of the premiere of The House of the Dragon, the latest mega show by HBO based on another of Martin’s novels, Fire and Blood.

“I had no contribution to the later seasons [of Thrones] except, you know, inventing the world, the story and all the characters,” he said.
