Veteran actor Mickey Rourke has rubbished Tom Cruise’s successful career, called him irrelevant and said he always plays the same roles.

“That doesn’t mean sh*t to me. [Tom Cruise has] been doing the same part for 35 effing years. I got no respect for that,” he said.

He added that he cares more about actors displaying their range of skills in a variety of roles rather than always playing the same role and being successful.

“I don’t care about money or power. I care about…when I when I watch Al Pacino or Christopher Walken working, or De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris and Ray Winstone, that’s the kind of actor I want to be like. A lot of guys that tried to stretch as actors.”  he said.

An amused Piers asked Walken if he doesn’t think Cruise is a good actor, to which he replied; “I think he’s irrelevant.”

Cruise is the star of the highest-grossing film of the year so far, Top Gun: Maverick, which has garnered an astounding $1.18bn at the worldwide box office and $600m in the United States alone.

That success seems to be rubbing some people off the wrong way.

Mickey Rourke is an American actor and former boxer best known for his roles in movies such as The Expendables, Sun City and The Immortals.
