The team were also missing skipper Andre Ayew due to suspension.

Nigeria were one of the form teams in the early parts of the African Cup and were generally considered the better team at this time.

The new-look Black Stars under coach Otto Addo and technical director Chris Hughton came out guns blazing from kick-off.

Ghana kept the ball well and pinned Nigeria back to their half, even without threatening.

The Super Eagles‘ game plan was clear, to soak the pressure and hit Ghana on the break with the pace and power of Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon.

However, the Stars weathered any such breaks with ease.

Chances in the game were few and far between, but Ghana got her first shot on target from a Fatawu Issahaku screamer from outside the box.

The second half continued in much the same way, with the most exciting moment being a penalty denied Nigeria after a VAR check.
