Afrochella Exposed – Asakaa Boys Accuse Them of Not Paying for Performances In 2020

Published by

Organisers of one of Ghana’s biggest annual events have been accused of failing to pay drill music hitmakers Asakaa Boys for work done.

In Asante Twi, Jaybahd, a member of the Asakaa boys, narrated how they performed at Afrochella for free in 2020 in a Twitter space with guests like Efya.

He went on to explain that this was solely due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had put a strain on many financial activities.

The musician also expressed his dissatisfaction with Afrochella organisers for abandoning them in 2022, the appropriate year for payment.

When asked how they paid their flight tickets from Kumasi to Accra to perform, they credited fellow musician Ova Wise for catering to all the bills incurred.

Watch and listen to a snippet of the discussions in a video recording below.

The Kumasi based musicians are not happy with the organisers and would essentially accept payment for their performances.

Fans on Twitter who listened to the discussions expressed disappointment in Afrochella.

See below a few of the comments.

Netizens and attendees of Afrochella will be keen on finding out if the organisers of the event respect and appreciate the talents of its performers.
