Ghanaian Chief Commits Suicide After Losing GHS120,000 Bet On AFCON 2021

We have received reports that a chief in the Asante Akyem North district of Ghana has committed suicide after losing a huge amount of money to bet.

According to reports, the late chief used an amount of Ghc 120,000 belonging to the cocoa farmers in the Asante Akyem North district to place a bet on some matches at the AFCON and lost.

The reports do not state clearly which team and match the late chief bet to the tune of GHS120,000 on.

The late chief was the treasurer of the cocoa farmers group and held the entire contribution in his coffers.

According to Nana Amoako Gyampo, a correspondent at Class Media Group, the inability of the chief to raise the money he used to bet forced him to commit suicide.

Nana Amoako Gyampo disclosed on the mid-day news on Accra 100.5 FM that the chief was approached by someone with sure betting odds from the AFCON to double his gains and he obliged.

The correspondent explained that the late chief was expected to account for the money by Monday, January 17, 2022 and looking at the pressure mounting on him, he took his life.

Police is yet to address the news and give details on what happened at the community.
