We cannot say it was a bad year, neither can we say it was heaven on earth in Ghana but we had our fair share of both worlds throughout the year.
Today, we want to walk our readers down memory lane and recall some of the craziest stories and biggest celebrity scandals that happened in 2021.
Sit back, relax, grab some snacks and enjoy the ride.
1. Akuapem Poloo’s Demise
One of the few celebrities who has had a tough year was actress Rosemond Alade Brown aka Akuapem Poloo.
Poloo has been twe*king and acting sensual all these years but her single action of squatting n@ked in front of her son on his birthday brought hell in her life.
Child Right Activists took the matter on and sued the socialite. The law suit generated a huge buzz in the country and it is right that she holds the first position on our list.
Akuapem poloo, has been going in and out of the court trying to battle the laws until she was finally jailed for 90 days.
She only got her freedom few weeks ago after her lawyers filed for an appeal and was fined instead of serving jail term.
2. Rise of The Youth: FixTheCountry Saga
This year saw a large number of Ghanaians express their displeasure in the way affairs in the country were operated.
School system, health and finance was backsliding like Michael Jackson’s Moonwalk dance and the people stood against it.
This displeasure gave birth to a social media demonstration with the hashtag “Fix The Country” where people were sharing images of how deplorable certain projects in the country was.
The social media demonstration grew bigger with many people highlighting poor infrastructure and inhumane living conditions in the country.
They moved from online to the streets and the streets to the court room with Actress Efia Odo leading the pack– she even got herself arrested in the process.
3. Slay Moesha becomes Evangelist Moesha
One of the most popular Ghanaian socialites and actress found God, Hallelujah!!
Moesha Boduong also got attention to herself within the Year when she mysteriously started preaching like an evangelist after an alleged encounter with a Nigerian billionaire.
Rumors which have still not been substantiated has it that Moesha had a near death experience where her soul was being exchanged for riches but was saved by grace.
The actress went bananas for a while, dressed shabbily, tried suicide then finally ended up in a rehab center kind courtesy of Ayisha Modi.
After regaining sanity, Moesha said she had shunned her old ways of sleeping with men for money and will no long post raunchy photos online.
Her retirement from slaying paved way for a new generation of slay queens who sought to do more than what the actress did.
A typical example is actress Kisa Gbekle, who filmed her entire butt enhancement surgery and healing process, something even headmistress Moesha was afraid to do.
4. The ‘Damparization’ of Medikal, Shatta Wale and other Celebrities
In the last quarter of the year, Ghanaians witnessed an awakening in its police force, all thanks to its new IGP Dr. Akufo Dampare.
It was fun moments because the new IGP was no respecter of persons and he never hesitated in arresting anyone who broke the law.
Under the watch of Dampare, many celebrities got on the wrong side of the law and many spent days in prison or hours in court.
Popular among such celebrities were controversial dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr aka Shatta Wale as well as rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, affectionately known as Medikal.
Shatta Wale, after receiving a death prophesy, decided to fake his own death by claiming he was shot by armed men while returning home from an event.
He was declared wanted after it came out to be the biggest celebrity stunt in Ghana.
Shatta turned himself in and was arraigned before court. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to remand in prison.
Medikal was also arrested for brandishing a gun on his social media page. Just like Shatta, he was arraigned before court and was asked to spend some days in the cooler.
Both were granted bail after some days and they decided to organize a Freedom Concert to thank their God and fans for their support.
It is instructive to note that their case is still pending and the final verdict will determine if they are indeed free men or going back to jail.
Last but certainly not the least was the Funnh Face virus.
The Funny Face virus refers to the number of broken hearts and ruined marriages which happened in the year, starting from actor Funny Face.
Ghanaian comedian Funny Face ended up with a mental disorder after his baby mama, Vanessa, left him amd took their twins to Kumasi.
The heart break was so severe that it turned the Children’s president into a monster no one could tame, except mental drugs which when he forgets to take, forces him to record live social media videos insulting dignitaries and threatening people.
Another celeb who suffered the Funny Face virus was actress and TV presenter Xandy Kamel.
Xandy and Kaninja’s 2 years marriage broke into pieces over infidelity on the man’s part.
The break up also landed her at a rehabilitation center just like Funny Face but she came out stronger with a ‘no nonsense’ attitude and an enmity for men.
So there you have it, these are the top 5 biggest celebrity scandals that happened in 2021.
We could have talked about the many beefs Afia Schwarzenegger, Twene Jonas, Ayisha Modi, Tracey Boakye and Co engaged in but that is an article for another time.
Happy New Year and we wish for more craziness in 2022.
