Virgil Abloh – Ghanaian Designer For Louis Vuitton Dies of Cancer Aged 41

The fashion industry is in mourning as US born Ghanaian fashion designer Virgil Abloh has sadly passed on.

Just like popular actor chadwick Boseman, Abloh was battling cancer privately but succumbed to the deadly sickness at the age of 41.

The sad news was announced on the official twitter page of Louis Vuitton in the late hours of Sunday November 27th 2021.

Louis Vuitton, a company which Virgil worked as its menswear designer since 2018, disclosed how devastated they were and sent their condolence via tweets to his family.

“LVMH, Louis Vuitton and Off White are devastated to announce the passing of Virgil Abloh, on Sunday, November 28th, of cancer, which he had been battling privately for several years,” the tweet read.

Virgil Abloh was founder of popular streetwear brand Off-White. He also worked as the menswear designer for Louis Vuitton.

Virgil Abloh was born on September 30, 1980, in Rockford, Illinois, to Ghanaian immigrant parents. His mother was a seamstress and his father managed a paint company.

Abloh was raised in Rockford, where he attended Boylan Catholic High School, graduating in 1998. 

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. 

He received his Master of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2006.
