Actor Van Vicker has revealed that he was almost killed in Liberia numerous times before he relocated to Ghana.
Vicker, speaking on GTV’s Breakfast show, opened up about a scary time in his life before moving to safety in Ghana.
Vicker says around 1990/91, when he was about 13/14 his family was staying in Liberia, where his mother partially hails from.
It was also around the time of the Liberian Civil War.
Recounting the horror, Vicker says he remembers nearly being killed at least six times within a short four-month period.
Those incidents convinced his mother to finally relocate to Ghana.
Vicker was relating his experiences to the ongoing takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.
“I always get confused whether it was 90 or 91, for some reason, I always get it mixed up but either way, I should be right one way or the other. I think it was in 1991 November when we escaped from the war in Liberia and when I say, I use the war to invoke some kind of resilience and I count my blessings, it just means that within a span of about just three-four months, I almost got killed about six times.
“So, for me, when I see things like what is happening in Afghanistan, it just brings back those memories, gets me very sentimental, and I just count my blessings every day,” he said.
The actor was born in 1977 to a Ghanaian/Liberian mother and a Dutch father, with his father dying when he was just six years old.
