Ejura Shooting: 16-Year-Old Survivor Loses One Leg – Photos

Awal Misbawu, one of the Ejura gunshot survivors in last Tuesday’s incident has lost his right leg after a surgical amputation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The 16-year-old boy is one of six persons who suffered various degrees of injuries after the military opened fire during a protest in Ejura, an Ashanti regional town.

Reports indicated that two out of the six injured lost their lives while four others, including Awal Misbawu, battle their for their lives at the hospital.

The report added that Misbawu was initially referred to the Saint John of God Hospital at Dua Nkwanta on Wednesday, but doctors referred him to KATH last Thursday, where doctors advised that his right leg be amputated to save his life.

Although his family was not pleased with medical reports, Awal Misbawu’s life was on the line and on Saturday, Awal had his right leg amputated.

He is still undergoing treatment at the facility.

Another victim of the infamous incident, Louis Ayikpe, 19, is still on admission at the Hospital undergoing surgery after he sustained gunshot wounds on his stomach.

Family member of Louis, Rita Sefa Amponsah, told the press that the boy was not part of the protest but caught a stray bullet unaware.

“He was urinating when the bullet caught him unaware,” Rita Sefa Amponsah said. “He has not eaten since. It is only today that the doctor asks us to give him water,” she added.

The member of Parliament for Ejura, Mohammed Bawa Braimah, visited the two victims and donated undisclosed amount to families.
