Ghanaian Man Working as Uber Driver in the U.S to Raise Money to Bring His Family Over Shot to Death

A Ghanaian man working as a ‘Lyft’ driver in the U.S to raise enough money to bring his family over, has tragically died.

Elijah Newman, 45 years of age, was shot to death in the Baden neighbourhood of St Louis, Missouri, last week Thursday.

He was working at the time carrying passengers to and fro when he was unfortunately shot in the torso and died.

Police say they’re unsure if he was picking up or dropping off a passenger at the time of his murder.

Friends and family of Elijah say he was a hardworking man who came to St Louis with a dream of making enough money to bring his family from Ghana to join him in the States.

Elijah reportedly has five kids.

“He just wanted to come to St. Louis to have a new start. He was driving Lyft and, unfortunately, he lost his life,” a friend of his known as Elizabeth Hylton revealed.

“His goal in life… to make sure his family was going to be successful and his family and children would thrive in life,” she added.

May he rest in peace.
