A top NPP official has basically branded Ghanaians as fools for expecting the government not to hang heavy new taxes on our necks in the midst of a pandemic.
Gordon Asare-Bediako, the PRO of the State Housing Company, dropped the sarcastic insult on social media after days of Ghanaians complaining about the new taxes announced in the 2021 budget.
The most complaints have been reserved for new taxes which Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says are to offset the free water and electricity Ghanaians enjoyed during the pandemic.

Ghanaians are furious about that after the NPP campaigned on the promise of alleviating suffering during the pandemic with these programs – only to turn around later and tax us for them – even though we’re still in the pandemic!
However, Asare-Bediako says Ghanaians are fools if we thought the money would not come from our own pockets.
According to him, did we expect the President to sell his wife’s kaba and slit or utensils to raise the money? Basically insulting Ghanaians as fools.

“So did people really think President Akufo-Addo was going to sell the durable cooking utensils or the kaba and slit and duku of Mama Rebecca to offset the cost of the freebies? Ei saaa? Boi.” he wrote.
His offensive and truly arrogant post has led to a barrage on him, leading to him taking down the post and apologizing.
What his post exposes though is that politicians truly hold the people in contempt. Asking not to be saddled with taxes in the midst of a pandemic ends up with us being branded as idiots.
