Ghanaian actor and former Charterhouse PRO George Quaye has asked Ghanaians to consider the role religion plays in domestic abuse being so prevalent in society.
According to him, religion, specifically Christianity which is a huge part of how Ghanaian mindsets are shaped, has troublesome aspects which make men look down on women.
Quaye said that men believe literally that women came from their ribs – that is women would not exist without men – hence feel justified in their belief that women are lesser than they are.
He commented in response to a post from comedian OB calling for the bride price to be scrapped because it makes men feel that they ‘own’ their women.
Quaye responded: “The sense of entitlement isn’t from the Bride Price bro. When you have a book that tells you the woman wouldn’t have existed had it not been for your rib, many idiots will believe they “own” them. Let’s start from taking a second look at how the Bible itself “impaired” the role, strength, relevance and influence of women,”
Of course, many brainwashed Ghanaian Christians jumped into the responses to slam Quaye but you can’t just ran away from the words of the Bible.

In fact, the Bible has more troublesome parts than the rib example Quaye used. To illustrate that, I’ll just drop here a post a friend made to celebrate international women’s day.
When you believe that is the word of God, is there really any shock when you see women as ‘lesser beings’?
