The reigning monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth II, has rendered a moving tribute to the late Ghanaian President Jerry John Rawlings.
Rawlings’ legacy sharply divides opinion but Elizabeth touched on the most important part, which was helping to install the 1992 constitution which rules Ghana to this day.
She wrote in her official eulogy that “I was saddened,” after hearing of the news of Rawlings’ demise.
She added: “I recall fondly my visit to Ghana in 1999 and the many discussions we had at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meetings”
“He made an invaluable contribution to the creation of the current constitution and returning Ghana to democracy in 1992,”
