A hot Twitter debate has been sparked after some ignorant fools claimed that the overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is more powerful than the President of the Republic.

Of course, if you say something this dumb people are going to come at you – and they have – turning Twitter into a minefield.

Today is the inauguration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was sworn in to begin his 2nd term in office.

Somehow, that empowered some Ashanti supremacists to come out and claim that the Otumfuo is more powerful than Nana Addo.

Some Ashanti people love to feel superior over everyone in the country and thus are always ascribing some powers to Otumfuo that don’t exist in reality.

Otumfuo is revered by the Ashanti, and he truly has institutional power, but Ghana decided long ago to become a unitary political state with power vested in the 3 arms of government. Whatever power Otumfuo allegedly has is at the whim of the state.
