H.E Amadou Toumani Toure, former President of Mali has been confirmed dead at the age of 72.
According to reports from international platforms, the former army general died in Turkey during Monday night to Tuesday morning. His Nephew, Oumar Toure also confirmed the news to AFP.

A hospital doctor in Bamako said the former leader had recently undergone heart surgery. Although “everything seemed to be going well”, the doctor said he was later transferred to Turkey for medical reasons.
Toure came to power in 1991 when he led a coup against dictator Moussa Traore, after 22 years of tough leadership. Traore died in Mali in September.

In his tenure of office, Toure tried to make Democracy work in Mali but was oust in 2012 with a military coup.
