The Founding Editor of GhanaCelebrities.Com, Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, has exposed Ama K. Abebrese’s ignorance–following the actress’ comment which implied that the on-going protest of some Ghanaian Celebrities is illegitimate compared to the #ENDSARS protest in Nigeria.
Following Ama K’s comment (below), Chris-Vincent took to his Facebook page to school the actress on the right these celebrities have to protest.
Chris-Vincent wrote: “Sometimes, it is difficult to understand Ama K Abebrese’s line of reasoning–almost certainly absurd.
Every human being has a right to work –which is “the concept that people have a human right to work, or engage in productive employment, and may not be prevented from doing so. The right to work is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law through its inclusion in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, where the right to work emphasizes economic, social and cultural development.”
Ghanaian Celebrities have a right to work and earn money, legally too. No state actor or institution has the right to arbitrary prevent people from earning income–and the blanket banning of celebrities from advertising alcohol and sports betting is a breach of their human rights, and they have a right to protest against it.
Beyond that, the right to protest is a stand-alone right–nowhere does it say that you have the right to protest against what matters. Who determines what matters?
Some people in the UK led by the brother of Jeremy Corbyn are protesting against COVID-19 restrictions, calling the pandemic a conspiracy–while others are protesting for Black Lives. Both protests, are legitimate in law and protected.
Even if you do not believe that COVID-19 is a conspiracy, you cannot take away the right of those who believe in such nonsense to protest.
Yet Ama, ignorantly, thinks the Ghanaian Celebrities have no right to protest against the wholesome pulling of food from their mouths.”
