The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has named Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as its new chairperson.
Akufo-Addo was elected to the position at the 57th ECOWAS Summit currently being held in Niamey, Niger.
He takes over from Mahamadou Issoufou, President of Niger, who’s held the position since June 2019.
Akufo-Addo becomes the 35th chair of the organization and would serve a one year term.
Despite his elevation to the new position, Akufo-Addo still faces re-election in Ghana this December.
