In the midst of the nonsense being constantly served on social media by Tracey Boakye and her class, we have also been reminded of the medium’s positive impact.
A Ghanaian pencil artiste, Emmanuel Apraku aka Ray Styles, has been struck down by a liver condition which has left him near death.
Ray needs 40,000 pounds to be able to undergo emergency liver surgery on his condition.
Social media got into action and started sharing his story left, right and centre to help raise the necessary money for Ray to get his surgery.
A GoFundMe was created in his name to raise that money and amazingly, most of what is needed has already been raised.
Ray’s story which went viral on social media gingered people to step up and donate and at this moment, his GoFundMe has raised over $50,000.
Ray, who creates incredibly lifelike pencil drawings of celebrities, came to public consciousness earlier this year after his pencil drawing of the poster for the new Bad Boys movie was reshared by Will Smith himself.
Death came for him but with the help of social media he now looks poised to survive.
Social media is not just for Tracey Boakye and folks to make noise – it can also be utilized for immense good.
