A Ghanaian slay queen popularly known as Ama Richest, a very popular personality on social media as far as modern ‘escort’ services are concerned, has attempted to explain the differences between some of the words that are familiar to her line of trade.

In times of old, prostitution was just one line of trade. It had no branches at the time so Ghanaians and our Nigerian fellows easily classified it as ‘Ashawo’, a term which has since gained considerable popularity.

But with the proliferation of social media and the advent of modernism, the phenomenon of prostitution has assumed many branches, with the traditional era of the trade almost fading out.

Today, ‘call girls’ or ‘escorts’ do not necessarily dress in skimpy clothes and demonstrate sexually suggestive mannerisms to attract clients, they simply sit in the comfort of their homes and negotiate with their clients via the internet.

This new phenomenon, popularly known as a hookup, is quite simply prostitution that has been given a fancy name. However, one of such persons who ply this not-so-popular trade has attempted to distinguish between hookup, it’s senior sister, ‘Ashawo’, and their much younger brother, Friends-with-benefits.
