Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has spoken his piece of mind to people who blame Nigeria’s Movie Industry (Nollywood) for being a major cause of the country’s underdevelopment.
Many Nigerians have accused Nollywood of being a cause of Nigeria’s underdevelopment because most of their movies have failed to project the country’s rich heritage except always dwelling on the negatives.
This sentiment was recently re-echoed by Nigerian lawyer and author, Reno Omokri who chastized the movie industry of dwelling on too much juju movies, making the country seem backward in international eyes.

However, Yul Edochie believes that it is wrong to lay the blame for Nigeria’s woes on Nollywood. According to him, despite the excessive gun violence in American movies, people still go and queue for American visas. He slammed Nigerian leaders for failing to develop the country.
He wrote, “Past leaders failed to fix the country, you all turn around to blame Nollywood for it. All the gun violence movies you watch from America has it stopped you from applying for American visa, neither have the kung fu movies stopped you from going to China. It’s all entertainment”
