Ghanaian singer Noella Wiyaala has revealed that her greatest ambition as a musician is not to win the prestigious Grammy Award as many musicians set out to.
According to her, the award she adores most has already been presented to her, when a street was named after her in her native village of Funsi, a small town in the Wa East District.
Wiyaala, though unsung as compared to some of the notable names in the Ghanaian music industry, has gained very encouraging international recognition having had the rare privilege of performing on some reputable stages across the world.
But despite her enviable fame, Wiyaala has always preferred to be identified with her Sissala tribe in her village in Funsi. Her desire to identify with her people was even more recognized having made the decision to relocate from the hustle and bustle of city life in order to live among her people.
“Some people will try to make you feel until you win a Grammy…so…so…so this and that. Grammy is a music industry thing for music industry people. Let them enjoy. My greatest award is in Funsi,” she wrote, as she shared a photo of herself standing in the middle of the famous “Wiyaala Street”.

It is interesting to note that not only has Wiyaala made the move to stay among her own people, but she has also personally initiated the building of a cultural theatre in order to be able to adequately train some of the future talents from her village.
