Bulldog and Captain Planet Trade Blows over ‘Foolishness’ of George Floyd Memorial Held in Ghana

Two of Ghana’s most prominent showbiz personalities, Captain Planet and Bulldog, traded different perspectives on the memorial held in Ghana for slain African American George Floyd.

Bulldog strongly maintains that the memorial was ‘foolish’ whilst Captain Planet says it was the right thing to do because we consider African-Americans as part of us.

The two outspoken personalities traded their opinions during appearances on Class Fm in Accra Saturday, albeit on different shows.

Last week, the Tourism Ministry organized a memorial for the slain Black American George Floyd in Accra and it didn’t go down well with many Ghanaians.

Bulldog was very critical when he appeared on the ‘Big Show’ on Class Fm, calling the memorial ‘foolish’.

“I think it’s foolish, I think if we have a diaspora community here in Ghana which I know we have and they are doing this for George Floyd I understand, but if you are going to waste taxpayers money… the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture does not know what to do with our monies but will spend it on this, then it does not make sense,” he said.

“I believe that we have too many dead [people] in this country, there are four girls missing in Takoradi till date we haven’t found them and nobody has held any memorial service for them…there was a journalist that was killed and nobody has held a memorial service for him and countless individuals, Ghanaian lives were lost in serving this country of ours, nobody gives a damn…so, I don’t get it unless it’s for exportation purposes. I mean why will a Ministry of Art and Culture put their logo there and say it’s beyond the return I think it’s so silly, childish and foolish,” Bulldog added.

Captain Planet had a separate opinion when he appeared later that day on Saturday Night Live, also on Class Fm.

“I think because we all believe that the slave trade started from Ghana, so, mostly, we see Black Americans as Ghanaians; that’s how I get it because slave trade started from Ghana, we see all black people as Ghanaians, so, it’s cool, it’s OK, it wasn’t a big budget.

He added, addressing people like Bulldog over their criticism.

“That’s their opinion. You don’t expect everyone to arrive at a point and come out with the same results. Some people will disagree and others will agree. So, for me, I don’t think it is anything bad and it wasn’t anything big. I’m just praying that they will not come out with a big budget that’s all…”
