His Excellency the former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has stated explicitly his support for NDC Communications Director, Sammy Gyamfi after he was dragged over what many termed as an insensitive cartoon.
It would be recalled that Sammy Gyamfi was in the news three days ago for all the wrong reasons after he sought to use a cartoon of the despicable killing of George Floyd to represent him and his party’s struggles against the Electoral Commission.
Many Ghanaians expressed their disgust at the insensitivity of the cartoon, calling him out for exploiting a tragic death to score political points. Though many well-meaning Ghanaians, including Sarkodie and Joey B, have prevailed on the young politician to retract and apologize, he has adamantly refused.
Reacting to the incident, the former President lamented what he termed as double standards on the part of Ghanaians. Sharing a cartoon depicting the violence that occurred in Ayawaso West Wuogon during the by-election, he sought to explain that those who did not see any issue with that cartoon should not pretend to suddenly see a problem with the one shared by Sammy Gyamfi.
