Has Strongman Finally Emerged From The Shadow Of Sarkodie?

Published by

Strongman Burner is a highly rated rapper with very few hit songs when compared to even the likes of Patapaa and Bosum Pyung. Most Ghanaians will struggle to remember any song from Strongman even though he has hit songs with Kuami Eugene and Akwaboah. They are most likely to remember “One corner” from Patapaa or “Ataa Adwoa” from Bosum Pyung.

For years many believed the music career of Strongman was hampered by his affiliation to Sarkodie although he has never said anything negative about his time at SarkCess Music.

Since his departure from the record label, his stock in the music industry has started to rise. He seems to be carving a small niche for himself in the music industry.

One space where Strongman has cornered and reigns as the King is the battle rap field aka diss tracks. When AMG Medikal, one of the biggest names in the rap game stepped up to him, not only did he match him bar for bar, he almost ended his career with Medikal retreating to his camp to nurse his wounds. Medikal is a well-respected rapper but had to start repeating his old lyrics when the beef got heated and by the time Strongman dropped “Immortal”, everyone interested in the rap genre including Medikal knew it was over

For a long time Sarkodie has been touted as the king of rap but what makes an artiste a good rapper? Is it the number of hit songs, bars or how they flow on a beat? Take the number of hit songs and Sarkodie is in a league of his own but when the last two categories are considered, one can not confidently say Sark is better than Strongman. Strongman has been dropping punchlines and bars for years. When was the last time one heard a dope line in Sark’s track?

As for flow, the least said the better. Sark has two flows and that is either rapping very fast or his start and stop method which he has depended on all this while. Strongman Burner has given us different styles from his track “Transformer” featuring Akwaboah to Nana Ama. Those with music ears that listen to Transformer and Baby Girl will recognise how the flow is similar to Sark’s but when one listen to “Nana Ama” or “Don’t Try”, one can appreciate the versatility of Strongman.

Sarkodie sits on the thrown of commercial rap but when it comes to the science of rap, the likes of Flowking Stone and Strongman Burner will give him a run for his money.
