The woman with the longest pegs in Ghana’s movie industry and the first Ghanaian celebrity to date a Nigerian celebrity Ms Yvonne Nelson, should be awarded for being the best mother in Ghana.
May 10 was the day several people celebrated their mothers and showed appreciation for all that their mothers have sacrificed to ensure their existence. Many bought flowers, chocolates and cloth for their mothers while others posted their parents on social media.
Mother’s Day has always been a huge celebration and will continue to be so when one considers the impact and importance of a mother. Take for instance the nine months journey to birth, the hormonal imbalances and the body changes that occur. Many women are required or expected to return to their old self as soon as possible after giving birth in order to remain attractive for their partners.
During the recent lock down in Kenya, a widow had to pretend to cook when she could not bare the crying of her children anymore. This woman who washed people’s clothes for a living placed stones in a pot, added water and proceeded to boil it so that the kids will think she was cooking.
Yvonne Nelson deserves the mother of the year award because of the struggles she went through to deliver a healthy kid. Many women and men who have witnessed a woman in labour will testify to the difficulties associated with childbirth. Yvonne Nelson’s water broke in the house and while in a car to the hospital, the child started to come out. According to the actress, she had to hold the baby’s head throughout the journey to the hospital. Anybody that has travelled in the streets of Accra understands the valleys known as potholes and the massive traffics in the city. For someone to remain calm enough with their legs wide apart and baby head in hand in such conditions speaks volumes about them. She even thought the child was dead when they finally got her out but fortunately that was not the case.
The determination and zeal to ensure the safe delivery of her child even under very stressful circumstances means that Yvonne Nelson deserves the mother of the year award.
