A former NCA (National Communications Authority) Director-General, William Tetteh Tevie and 2 other individuals have been jailed by the Accra High Court for causing financial loss to the state.
Eugene Baffoe-Bonnie, a former Board Chairman of the Authority and Salifu Osman, a former National Security representative coordinator were also jailed alongside Tetteh Tevie.
They were all found guilty of causing financial loss to the state in the sum of $4m, with Tetteh Tevie and Baffoe-Bonnie receiving six-year jail terms whilst Salifu was jailed 4 years.
A fourth defendant, businessman Nana Owusu Ensaw was acquitted and discharged.
Charges filed against the accused include stealing, using public office for personal gains and willfully causing financial loss to the state.
The case was in relation to the purchase of a Pegasus machine worth $4 million ostensibly to aid in the fight against terrorism.
Despite all the accused pleading not guilty, the prosecution managed to make their case leading to the guilty verdict.
The judge ruled that sufficient cause had been shown to prove that the defendants conspired to defraud the state.
The judge also ordered the state to seize all properties belonging to the accused which add up to about $3m.
This case is said to be the first case the NPP government took up once they won power in 2017 in pursuance of their pledge to root out corruption.
