Despite Media Group of Companies are set to become the latest multimedia company to lay off workers in the midst of the raging coronavirus pandemic.
Long time worker at the company Kwasi Aboagye, citing conversations with Managing Director Fadda Dickson, has revealed it is inevitable that the company owned by one of Ghana’s richest men Osei Kwame Despite lays off workers soon.
Some Ghanaian media companies have started trimming staff as they deal with the financial challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic.
The Multimedia Group laid off Naa Ashorkor and reportedly about a 100 other staff members. YFm Ghana, owned by the Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Corporation, held a mass clearout, sacking longtime presenters such as Caroline Sampson and Ms Naa.
According to Aboagye, Despite Media will be the next company to follow suit and sack multiple workers within a short period of time.
“Interestingly, I had a conversation with my boss, Fadda Dickson yesterday. I was telling him a friend told me he had heard Despite Media had also laid some workers off. He told me there is an indication Despite Media would do so,” Aboagye revealed.

“Media organisations have realized they’ve been very charitable so they’d use COVID-19 as an excuse to reduce the number of employees… It is not just about Multimedia, it is not just about Global Media Alliance; my Despite Media inclusive,” Aboagye said, speaking on his show Entertainment Review on Saturday.
