There are several controversial celebrities in the showbiz and entertainment world in Ghana such as Akuapem Poloo, Moesha Budoung, Queen Afia Schwarzenegger, Lydia Forson, Prophet Kumchacha and Patapaa aka Patapeezy. None of these figures bar Afia Schwar can lay claims to receiving more criticisms and negative press than Shatta Wale and Efia Odo.
Although these two celebrities continue to take punches from every aspect of the Ghanaian media, their stocks keep rising unlike Bukom Banku when he faced Bastie. Shatta Wale’s fan base continues to grow and was featured recently by Beyonce the queen of pop on her Lion King album. Efia Odo on the other hand was granted an audience by the Chief Imam of Ghana, a privilege not many can boost of in the country.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected several people especially the poor and less privileged among us. One remembers the disregard to calls for social distancing and the time several people wasted while waiting for just a plate of rice. Other African countries are suffering as much as Ghanaians with a woman in Kenya pretending to cook by boiling stones to trick her kids into thinking it is food in order to stop them from crying. Law enforcers used the pandemic to abuse their powers from beating civilians to raping women as reported in Rwanda. Listen to the audio below to hear some of the stories that are emerging from other countries due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Efia Odo and Shatta wale has been showing love and care to the people of the country as part of their efforts to ease the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the people and this something that must be admired.
Although Shatta Wale has done several things to help and entertain the public from donations of hand sanitizers to staging an online concert, the donations that was shocking and impressive was the one made to the prisoners in James Camp Prison in Accra. One usually disregards and forget about our brothers and sisters that are incarcerated but Shatta remembered these people and went ahead to provide a little comfort to them. His donation included food, drinks, toilet rolls and dental kits.
Efia Odo who is not noted for having a ridiculous amount of money donated 50 Ghs to 80 people via mobile money. The actress appreciates that not everyone is as privileged as her therefore she is happy to share the little that she has with the public. The Asantes has a saying which loosely translates as the person who is willing to share the little they have, will do the same when they have much and Efia Odo has proven that she would have happily given more if she had it.
It is time the good deeds of these celebrities get as much coverage as the bad traits so that others can have a balanced view of them.
