Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, the deputy Minister of Health has disclosed that Ghana has been acknowledged as one of six countries to have effectively and innovatively managed the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
According to the deputy health Minister, this feat was possible because of the Individual Ghanaians’ strict adherence to the various hygiene and social distancing protocols.
In a post on his Facebook wall, Dr Boye wrote, ” I thank my boss, the Honorable Minister for Health for giving me the opportunity to present Ghana’s COVID-19 situation today. The presentation was made to the global community in a Webinar that saw Ghana shortlisted as one of 6 countries chosen worldwide to present their inspiring management of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
“Ghana has been identified as one of the most innovative and effective countries at the management of the virus. This commendation of the country has been possible because of your compliance to social distance protocols and strict hygiene regimens. Strangely, this disclosure by the honourable deputy minister comes at a time when many have expressed disappointment with the government’s handling of the pandemic. Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu and a host of others have criticized President Akuffo Addo for lifting the lockdown restrictions way too early.
Ghana has currently recorded a total of 3,091 cases of COVID-19, with 303 recoveries and 18 deaths. Greater Accra is the country’s epicentre of the disease, followed by the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.
