British Rapper Ty Chijioke Dies Of Coronavirus At 47 Years

British-Nigerian Rapper Ben Chijioke, known in showbiz as Ty has died after a battle with coronavirus. The rapper who was thought to have escaped from danger after he came out of intensive care last month, gave up the ghost from further complications.

He had earlier been placed in a medically induced coma to aid his recovery but he came out of danger after he emerged strongly from intensive care.

Ty was born in London in 1972 to Nigerian parents and released his debut album, The Awkward, in 2001. He earned a cult audience through his unique take on the US boom-bap style of rap.

In 2003, he released the more commercial album Upwards which earned him a coveted Mercury Prize nomination. Ty found himself up against the likes of Amy Winehouse and The Streets but Franz Ferdinand eventually took the award. Just last year, Ty formed the hip hop supergroup Kingdem alongside Blak Twang and Rodney P.
