Bolgatanga based rapper Soorebia landed a major career milestone last weekend when he was adjudged the next rated act at the 2020 edition of the 3Music Awards.
Sooreba won the award ahead of 9 other rising stars from 9 regions.
The 3Music Awards went virtual for the first time this year due to the ban on public gatherings instituted by President Nana Akufo-Addo as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The virtual event was held at the Fantasy Dome of the Trade Fair Centre.
Soorebia added his name to the many distinguished award winners on the night including Sarkodie and Shatta Wale when he won the ‘Next Rated’ honour.
The ‘Next Rated’ Award is handed to the artist expected to be the next breakout star in Ghanaian music.
Soorebia, the chosen one, is a rapper who hails from Ghana’s Upper East region, mainly rapping in the Gurune dialect spoken by the Frafra people in and around Bolgatanga.
Speaking to myjoyonline after his award win, Soorebia said he hoped this would propel him to the next stage of his career.
“This award means a lot to me and my team who have sacrificed so much to help me get here. Now, I need Ghanaians to embrace and support my music. It is not just for me, but for the people of the Upper East Region,” he said.
“We have embraced Tinny with his Ga rap, Edem with his Ewe rap and so on. Now it’s time for us to embrace Soorebia and Frafra rap,” Soorebia added.
