The District Police Command in Somanya has arrested 14 persons who are said to have flouted the president’s ban on social gatherings which was issued to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
All 14 persons are said to have gathered in a house to perform the puberty rites, known as Dipo, with no regard for the directives on all forms of gatherings.
According to the Police, the suspects have been charged and granted bail to appear before the Somanya District Magistrate Court on Monday, May 4 2020.
The President said in his 7th update to the Nation that the ban on public gatherings is still in force even after the lifting of the partial lockdown. However, this directive appears to have been disregarded by many.
A few days ago, hundreds of people gathered for the enstoolment of the Okuapenhene in clear breach of public gathering and social distancing rules. Interestingly, the Police who are supposed to enforce the directives of the President, were there to rather offer protection as citizens brazenly disregarded the rules.
