A nurse in the United States has become the latest Ghanaian health care worker to die from the novel coronavirus.
Doreen Tay, a former student of the St Mary’s SHS in Ghana, was working as a licenced nurse in the U.S before the virus struck her down.
She fell ill in March and was admitted to the Montefiore Medical Center where she worked.
Unfortunately, she contracted coronavirus in the hospital, passing away on April 21st.
Tay, 43, left behind a husband and two children – 13-year-old Rachel and 11-year-old Derron.
After moving to the United States, Doreen attended the Jersey College School of Nursing, graduating in 2017.
She worked full time as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Montefiore Medical Center and part-time at Throgs Neck Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in New York.
After her death, a family friend set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to help cover her funeral expenses and take care of her kids. The fund has raised $9,605 out of a $25,000 target so far.
