Top Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji also had a humble beginning. The actress unlike the others was fortunate to act in the popular soap opera Ripples at a very tender age at 8. However, that was just something that happened fortuitously.
In an interview, Genevieve Nnaji talked about a time in her life where she went for a movie auditioning with people with good hairs, good skin and came from a good home – people who had all the chances over her but she got qualified and was the turning point in her life.
6. Halima Abubakar
Actress Hamila Abubakar had a bitter life after the collapse of Savannah Bank. Halima Abubakar’s father was a boss of several branches of Savannah bank and had invested heavily into the bank.
Hence, the collapse of the bank started a sort of ‘grace to grass story’ where she had to labour and go tough times to be where she is today.

7. Yul Edochie
Surprisingly, Yul Edochie whose father is Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie also had to struggle his way through stardom and to have his own money.
The actor particularly feels exceptionally proud because of what he has achieved by his struggles without the help of his father.
According to him, when he first came to Lagos he was squatting in his senior colleague Nonso Diobi’s parlour. He noted the room was a single room and he had to sleep on the floor but today they are neighbours in Crown Estate, Lekki.
‘Then, he was living in one-room apartment, and I was sleeping in the parlor without minding the consequences. I didn’t mind because I know where I was going to. I wasn’t concerned about the money I was going to make from this business. I just wanted to show the world that I can act and today, I have achieved a few things for myself. That’s my story. I passed through this struggle not because of the name I have. I did it on my own, so, I’m happy with my achievement.‘
