Born on 19 April 1982 in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Ini Edo is from the Ibibio tribe. Her mother was a teacher, and her father a church elder. She had a strict upbringing, the second of four children, three girls, one boy. She attended Cornelius Connely College in Calabar for her secondary school. She graduated from the University of Uyo where she got a Diploma in Theatre Arts. She also completed her bachelor’s degree program at the University of Calabar where she studied English. Ini Edo was awarded a scholarship in 2014 to study Law at the National Open University of Nigeria.
She started her acting career in 2003 with her debut in Thick Madam after she was discovered by a producer at the audition she attended. Her breakthrough, however, came in 2004 when she acted in World Apart. Till date, she has appeared in over 150 films and is regarded as one of the highest-profile actresses in Nigeria and Africa in general.

With several awards and endorsements to her name, Ini Edo is considered to be one of the richest actresses in Nigeria. She owns a house in Lekki which is estimated to cost about 70 million Naira and also has some expensive cars to her name.
She has been GLO brand ambassador for ten years from 2006 to 2016. In 2010 she was named to be the brand ambassador of noble hair and is also the brand ambassador of SlimTea Nigeria. Ini Edo was appointed The Special Assistant To The Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture And Tourism, by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in 2016.

In November 2008, the renowned actress got married to a US Based Nigerian Businessman, Philip Ehiagwina in a Church wedding in Nigeria. The wedding was repeated in February 2009 in Houston, Texas where her husband resided. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce after six years, with the actress citing “irreconcilable differences” as the major reason for her divorce, denying claims that she had cheated on her husband.
Alongside Ramsey Nouah and Bollywood star Vikram Vinod, Ini Edo was appointed by the United Nations Habitat Youth Envoys as a youth ambassador in 2011. In 2013, she was featured as a judge in the 2013 Miss Black UK Beauty Pageant including Jones Adebayo, Sporah Njau, Charles Ven, Justina Mutale, and Jenni Steele.
