On the night of Friday, April 17th 2020, shocking news emerged from Aso Rock that Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, had died.
Kyari had contracted the novel coronavirus several weeks back and unfortunately failed to recover.

Despite rising to prominence as Buhri’sright hand man, virtually little is known about Abba Kyari’s early life and career.
On the occasion of his passing, we bring you ten little known facts about Abba Kyari.
1 Abba Kyari is a member of the Kanuri ethnic group from Borno in North-Eastern Nigeria. Throughout his storied career, he held positions as a banker, lawyer and politician.
2 He was married to a prominent Nigerian, sister-in-law to Ibrahim Tahir and had 4 kids.
3 He holds two bachelor’s degrees – one in sociology from the University of Warwick and one in Law from the Univerity of Cambridge.

4 He was called to the bar in 1983 after graduating from the Nigerian Law School
5 He completed a Master’s Degree in Law at the University of Cambridge in 1984.
6 He attended the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1992 and participated in the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School in 1994.
7 He served as Commissioner for Forestry and Animal Resources in Borno State in 1990.
8 He served on the boards of Unilever Nigeria and Exxon Mobile and also once served as the CEO of the United Bank of Africa.
9 He became Chief of Staff of Nigeria in August 2015 and served until his death.
10 He is a holder of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), one of Nigeria’s highest national awards.
