Who Is Genevieve Nnaji? All You Need To Know About The Veteran Nigerian Actress

When you set out to identify the most talented and glamorous movie actresses Africa has ever produced, the name Genevieve Nnaji can never be ommitted. Born in Mbaise in Imo State – Nigeria, Genevieve is a celebrated veteran Nigerian Actress and singer.

Growing up as the fourth of eight children, Genevieve was nurtured in a middle class environment. Her father was an engineer while her mother was a nursery school teacher. Genevieve identified her talent very early in her life.

Genevieve had the opportunity at the tender age of 8 years to showcase her talent as a child actress in the then popular television soap opera, “Ripples”. However her full potential in the movie industry could not fully materialize until she attained the age of 19.

Her world almost collapsed right before her young eyes when she became pregnant at the young age of 17 when she was expected to be focused on her education. Even though her parents felt betrayed and disappointed, they supported her throughout her pregnancy and gave her the opportunity to continue her education at the prestigious University of Lagos (Unilag) after she had given birth.

Though many people know her as an actress, Genevieve has also demonstrated her talent as a singer and model. Even though she did not pursue modelling for long, she has featured in several commercials including commercials for Pronto beverages and Omo detergent. In 2004, she became the face of Lux soap in Nigeria.

Narrating how afraid and disappointed she was when she discovered she was 7 months pregnant, Genevieve was quick to point out that she is happy she did not abort the pregnancy.

Genevieve has starred in over 80 Nollywood movies including Half of a Yellow Sun, Weekend Gateways and Games women play. She is considered to be one of the highest paid Nollywood Actresses.

Genevieve has won several awards including Best Actress of the Year Award at the 2001 City People Awards and the Best Actress in a Leading Role Award at the 2005 Africa Movie Academy Awards. In November 2011, she was among the distinguished Nigerians who received National Honors conferred by then President Goodluck Jonathan when she was named as Member of the Order of the Federal Republic. A lot of rumours have circulated here and there about the Actress’ married life, however all these have turned out to be false. Genevieve is still not married. She is currently estimated to have a net-worth of about 850 million Naira.
