The wife of ex Blackstars player Sulley Muntari has donated over 1000 sanitary pads to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to be distributed to “Kayayie” girls and vulnerable women in the Country.
The donation according to Menaye is meant to help the women most likely to be affected by the current measures instituted in the country because of coronavirus. Mrs Cynthia Morrison who received the donations on behave of the ministry said “Menaye called me with passion and I could see that she sincerely wanted to help. The 2000 sanitary pads will go a long way to help the beneficiaries”.
Menaye Muntari who is the CEO and managing director for Sincerely Ghana Limited, manufacturers of the sanitary pads that were donated stressed the importance of giving back to the society especially in these trying times. In a statement delivered by Ms Ruth Quarshie, Menaye said, “I felt the need to support kayayei by providing them with my top-quality sanitary pads because I’ve always been a firm believer in giving back to society”.
Some people have questioned the timing and the way the sanitary pads were delivered. Many are asking if it was a publicity stunt to draw awareness and free advertisement for her brand of sanitary pads. Others talked about her reasons for donating to the ministry instead of giving it directly to the people. The struggles of Kakayie girls didn’t start with the current lockdown so why did Menaye choose this time to donate?
Although one can question the motives of the donations, assuming these sanitary pads end up with the most vulnerable and needy, then as a bare minimum both parties would have benefited
