Shatta Wale has always had his problems and antics but one thing that can not be taken away from him is his fight for “fair” payment and treatment of musical artists in Ghana.
Shatta has had his problems with several musicians from veteran artist Samini all the way to new artist Kweku Smoke. His beef with Stonebwoy led to the pulling of a firearm at the last music awards and now he has a diss song aimed at hiplife artist Sarkodie.
It seems that Shatta’s antics and behaviour is always aimed at antagonising someone or an institution, but some have yielded great results. Shatta has always criticised Charter House for the disparity in payment between top Ghanaian artist and even ordinary Nigerian artist. He did boycott some of their events in protest of this treatment which has resulted in Charter House paying Ghanaian artists better in recent times.
He did take some new artists under his wings and has always shared the secrets to his success whenever he has had the opportunity to. At the peak of his beef with Stonebwoy, he was still ready to make a track with the leader of the Bhim Nation because he understood the importance of the craft and was ready to make money out of it. Stonebwoy on the other hand was not ready to let sleeping dogs lie therefore refused to collaborate with him.
Upon all the “stupid” things that Shatta can be accused of doing, one can not deny the fact that he has been and remain one of the top artists in the country in the last decade. Not many artists can boost of the longevity and the continued success enjoyed by the leader of the SM movement.
