Two Ghanaians, Dove Maxwell and Emmanuel Amankwah from the Eastern Region have taken a staunch decision to sue the National Identification Authority (NIA) over the ongoing mass registration.
The NIA risk being sued for endangering the Ghanaian population amidst Coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the COVID 19 outbreak, the National Identification Authority is still going about its mass registration for the Ghana cards which is to aid the Electoral Commission for a new voters’ register for 2020 elections.
Though the government has banned social gatherings including shutting down schools and churches to control the spread of the COVID 19, its own outfit, NIA continues to risk it all by assembling people for registration.
According to a report by The Ghana Report news portal, the plaintiffs, Dove Maxwell and Emmanuel Amankwah noted in their motion that they may be disenfranchised as they can’t risk their lives for the Ghana card which serves as the basis for every citizen to casts his or her ballot.
The plaintiffs also supported their argument with a statement issued by the Ghana Medical Association to caution the government to halt the exercise as it poses a threat to human lives.
They, however, pray the court put an interlocutory injunction on the NIA’s mass registration.
