BBC to Launch 6th Komla Dumor Award In Johannesburg, South Africa

The BBC are launching the 6th edition of the annual Komla Dumor award.

The award is given out to a chosen, young African journalist and is named after the legendary Ghanaian broadcaster who died in 2014.

According to the BBC, the award “will be made to an outstanding individual living and working in Africa, who combines strong journalism skills, on-air flair, and an exceptional talent in telling African stories with the ambition and potential to become a star of the future.”

The winner will get to spend three months at the BBC headquarters in London, get to travel to Africa to report a story which would be shared on the continent and accross the world.

The deadline for applications is March 16th, with this year’s official launch being held in South Africa.

Ironically, no Ghanaian has managed to win the award since its inception in 2015.
