The FDA has hit back at Wendy Shay after the singer complained on social media that she lost a huge deal worth thousands of dollars due to one of their policies.
Apparently celebrities are not allowed to advertise alcoholic beverages in Ghana and due to that, Shay’s deal with a foreign alcoholic company died.
She very publicly called out the FDA for her deal falling through so they also decided to respond.
The FDA released a statement explaining that the reason the ban on celebrities advertising alcoholic drinks exists is to protect the youth who apparently idolize celebrities so much that the moment they see one advertising alcohol, they will go and overdrink it and die.
The FDA wrote: “Dear Wendy Shay Official, The guidelines on the advertisement of food states clearly that no well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertisement.
“The FDA is not trying to take food away from your mouth but rather trying to protect the young ones who idolise you from the abuse of alcohol. On the other hand, we can collaborate with you to use your influence to educate the youth against alcohol abuse.
“FDA….Your Well-being, Our Priority.Chat Conversation EndType a message…”
Alcohol is being advertised all over the place but the moment a celebrity does it then it becomes dangerous to the youth? How does that make any sense?
Our celebrities are suffering enough as it is, they need all the revenue streams they can get!
