One half of defunct music team 4×4, coded, has disclosed that artist who are tagged as ‘Old’ or with ‘Dead careers’ are not paid whenever they go and support their colleagues at their events.
Coded uttered that performances from such artists are treated as pro bono acts by event organizers and ‘old’ artists also see their performances as a way to show their fans they are still relevant.
In his words, “Almost all the old musicians are paid nothing when they go out to support other musicians who have their concerts. They just want to tell the fans they are still there”.
He went further to tell Kweku Manu that it is unnecessary for ‘Old’ artists to try to compete with new and young acts for the same attention.

“I don’t see the reason why an old musician will try and compete with the young ones when they have enjoyed their time in the past. A musician must know that they cannot stay on top forever. For instance, why would 4X4 try and compete with the likes of Medikal, KiDi or Sarkodie when we have enjoyed our time in the past.” he said.
When asked if 4×4 will ever return as a group, Coded echoed that the group has agreed to work on solo projects and they are happy on that path.
