According to reports from the BBC and the Daily Mail, Iddrisu’s sickle cell condition had been undiagnosed leading to his death.

Sickle cell disease is a group of disorders that cause red blood cells to become misshapen and break down.

The disease causes red blood cells to contort into a sickle shape. They die early leading to a shortage of healthy red blood cells (sickle cell anaemia) and can block blood flow causing pain (sickle cell crisis). Infections, pain and fatigue are symptoms of sickle cell disease.
