Russia has been banned from competing in any sporting event for the next four years by the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA).
The ban follows a series of seemingly state-sponsored doping scandals.
The ban means Russian athletes will not be able to compete at either the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo or the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Individual athletes who are able to prove they aren’t involved in doping, however, would be allowed to compete.
The ban was brought into effect after a meeting of Wada’s executive committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Russia has been given 21 days to appeal the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
