A Canadian woman who moved to Ghana to marry a guy she met online, has revealed the abuse she suffered in her marriage.
Marjorie Newell-Asamoah moved to Ghana after selling her house in Canada to rent a new one in Ghana where she lived with her husband.
However, a few months into the marriage she discovered her husband is actually a scammer who dupes unsuspecting ladies like himself to make money off them.
When she discovered he was a scammer, she reported the case to police.
That was when her problems started. Marjorie told Ghanaweb in an interview that after reporting him to the police, Selasie, her husband, started abusing her nonstop.
As the police were investigating and Selasie was not behind bars, he kept assaulting her for reporting him.
Tired after months of abuse, she left him and filed for divorce, but then her husband’s family and her pastor convinced her that the man had changed and she should give him another chance.
Things got even worse when she listened and got back together with her husband.
“The first night home, he took me to bed and beat me. While he was making love to me, he was beating me across the face, hard. Saying are you sorry for what you did? So you regret what you have done, talking about the CID charges,” she said.
“So I pretended I liked it because I knew with Selassie that anything I liked, he wouldn’t do and anything I didn’t like he would do to torture me. That’s the kind of person that he turned out to be.”
She added that the case is still with the police who are investigating the charges against the guy.
