The arrogant Portuguese, also known as the ‘Special One’, gets back to management after being sacked by Manchester United a year ago.
He has also coached Chelsea twice in the English Premier League, leading them to 3 league titles.
“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football,” Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said.
“He (Mourinho) has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician.
“He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Mourinho’s first game is on Saturday as Tottenham travel to neighbours West Ham United.
