South African comedian making waves in the United States, Trevor Noah, has passed a comment which is going to divide a lot of people.
Marriage is a goal many people seek in life, and one of its attractive perks is getting to stay with someone you’ve chosen and build a life together.
But what people think is a positive about marriage, Noah sees as a huge negative.
According to the comedian, who hosts the ‘Daily Show’, more marriages would last for far longer than they currently do if couples are not forced to stay together by social norms.
“I’m a big advocate for not living together ever, even if you’re married. I think one of the biggest reasons people get divorced and relationships breakup is because of this cohabiting bullsh*t that we’ve come to believe is the way relationships are supposed to be.
“You cannot tell me that everyone was designed to live the same way. Our intimacy can be expressed in different ways, and that’s what’s beautiful,” Noah said.
Noah’s comments are certainly going to divide opinion! What is the use of getting married if you’re not going to stay together, I can hear many ladies asking?
On the other hand, I can hear many guys happily jumping onboard – feeling this is a great way to add more sidechicks to their portfolio.
Fact is the truth is somewhere in between. Living together is one of the hardest things to do for people coming from different backgrounds and lifestyles – but then marriage would become pretty diluted if you cannot maintain the intimacy constant close contact brings.
Ultimately though, if you vow to be together forever, for better or for worse, there should be no reason why you shouldn’t be able to live together.
